The document retrieval system for UNIX and WindowsNT |
CITAT/X at Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin
CITAT/X is a document retrieval system which can be used in the areas of press, parliamentary and project documentation on Unix systems or Unix servers und NT servers with MS-Windows clients.
Its highlights are its completely freely configurable database structure and user interface. Depending on the application and hardware configuration, Tk- or Java-based user interfaces can be used.
Almost any conceivable search procedure and search aid is available: thus terms can be searched for and selected from list boxes, partly completed terms are expanded - if not unique then a choice is presented in a menu; active subqueries are stored in a connector window showing the number of hits per subquery - subqueries can be combined using any of the usual boolean operations the results of which are themselves stored in the connector window; differentiation between main and secondary descriptors per document/program/project; view on the hierarchical position of a term or related term (synonym) in one of the thesauri which can be either a simple or poly-hierarchical thesaurus.
The relational database kernel of CITAT/X - the RDBMS db++ - permits the seamless implementation of an efficient administration environment from a simple ordering system, over project administration through to a complete material requirement system.
Optionally, CITAT/X permits objects - i.e. processes/projects - rather than documents to be organised and searched for. The full text(s) related to the objects can be accessed by any arbitrary textprocessing system with which the original text was created.
The use of Tcl makes it possible to respond to the individual configuration wishes of the user for the most differentiated application situations both comprehensively and efficiently. The user specific Tcl configuration scripts are stored externally to the main `C' programs which permits both a simpler and more comprehensive version control and maintenance policy to be carried out. Concept asa has consciously chosen the public domain tool Tcl, which is gaining rapidly in acceptance and application, rather than use a (or develop yet another) propriety 4GL language.
A further, powerful public domain tool `perl', with extensions by Concept, asa permits the most complex of reports to be prepared in the framework of data base publishing, structured and formatted in press quality.
